Documents needed.

it’s quite simple.

You might feel there is a lot of process to get your documents ready, but trust me its quite simple. So there will be two main events for which you’ll require documents: The Application Process and The VISA Process. Most of the documents are common for both the events. I will attach a document checklist along with this post feel free to make use of it.

I have categorized the documents  into two sections:           Academic and Financial Docs.

Academic Docs.

This category consists of:

  • Passport Copy
  • Marks Cards (10th and 12th grade)
  • 12th Predicted Score Report (obtain this from school if you haven’t given your 12th boards yet)
  • Letter of Recommendations
  • Statement of purpose
  • Resume
  • SAT and TOEFL Score reports

Financial Docs.

This category consists of:

  • Bank Statements of Sponsor
  • Proof of Funds
  • ITR’s of Sponsor
  • Financial Acknowledgement

These will be the documents you’ll need during the submitting of your university applications. I will be putting up a separate post for the documents needed for our VISA interview.  Stay fresh!

It’s not as scary as it sounds

As the heading suggests this post is bout the exams and tests you’ll need to take up and as always I’ve put up the respective links.

I. SAT

SAT a.k.a Scholastic Aptitude Test this test is like the key to applying to universities in the US and applying for various scholarships. The whole test is for a score of 1600. The test itself is divided into two sections English and Math, the English section is further divided into reading and writing and the Math section section is further divided into with calculator and without calculator. Now you might get questions on prepping for the SAT’s and as a person that has already taken the SAT already i just can’t recommend Khan Academy enough! They have a SAT prep course with 8 mock tests, and the best part is all of this you get for free!! Feel free to check out this link for Khan Academy. https://www.khanacademy.org/sat

II. TOEFL

TOEFL is a pretty important exam with respect to the visa process and for the university applications too. TOEFL is a test of English as a foreign language. The test is out of 120 points, it’s divided into four sections: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. Shortlisting Universities.

The first step you’ll need to do is shortlisting universities that offer the course you want to major in. In the states there are 1,626 public colleges and 8 ivy league schools, since there is a lot of colleges present shortlisting manually through all the colleges might be difficult, to make this process easier i’ll recommend some websites that’ll make your search “a lot” easier.

Use these websites to find the best universities offering your desired major.

Your college shortlisting process should be based off: > University Ranking > University Graduation Rate (ideal if above 65%) > Academics > Campus > Student Life Make use of the Universities’ official website to get more details, and feel free to call them up or mail them.

Note down all the universities and feel free to print and use the .pdf I’ve attached to create your applications chart!

the road ahead….

Hey there! happy to see y’all again as the heading suggests this post is bout the steps you’ll be taking for getting into an university in the US. I’ll be discussing each of these steps in detail in upcoming posts so stay tuned for those.

The whole road can be broken into two main sections: Pre-decision & Post decision These two sections will be discussed in detail in the next post.

Pre-decision

This section consists of: Shortlisting Universities, Taking up SAT’s and TOEFL & Submitting your college applications.

Post decision

This section consists of: Documentation, Obtaining I 20 & your whole VISA process.
